Time is Relative

I celebrated my birthday last month and was reminded that time is relative:
“Time is relative” means the passage of time depends on the observer’s frame of reference, as described by Einstein’s theory of special relativity, where time can appear to slow down for objects in motion or near strong gravitational fields.

As you get older, time slows down. When I was a kid, a day was a very long time. Now it can flash by and I don’t know where it goes. I think the secret is novelty! Trying to do something different and novel can slow time down. I think it is also important to balance your time perspectives. Too much time in the past can lead me to melancholy or regret. Too much in the moment and I get nothing done. Too much time focused on future outcomes can lead me to do things in the present hat I don’t enjoy for the pay off, but then I have the next thing and so on.

Having a balanced Time Perspective can help you build on the past, enjoy the present and work towards your preferred future. My Time Inventory is below, and if you want to check out yours, then visit Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory – The Time Paradox. It is also a very good book: The Time Paradox: Using the New Psychology of Time to Your Advantage : Boyd, John, Zimbardo, Philip: Amazon.ie: Books
